London Sport partnership with StreetGames provides free training for young volunteers

News   •   Feb 06, 2020 09:39 GMT

London Sport has joined up with StreetGames to provide free leadership training in North West London for young volunteers aged 16-25.

The partnership aims to expand the diversity of sports volunteers and inspire young people to get their communities active whilst gaining the qualifications and skills to help deliver fun, inclusive sport at their local youth group.

At the end of the three-day course, young volunteers will have an Emergency First Aid certificate, completed a CIMSPA-endorsed safeguarding workshop and completed the StreetGames multi-skills activator course.

The training looks to build on young volunteers’ skills across a range of sporting categories as well as learning tips on how to engage other young people in multi-sports.

The course will take place from Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 February from 9am–5pm at Tarling Road Community Centre in Barnet.

To get involved the young person must be between the age of 16-25, commit to organising sports sessions for their youth group and volunteer for one day at our event on Saturday 4 or Sunday 5 July (travel will be provided).

John Arthur, Community Relationship Officer - Urban Sport at London Sport said:

“It’s amazing to partner with StreetGames to give young volunteers in London the opportunity to develop their skills and gain qualifications so they can become a champion in their community and successfully lead sessions.

“We want to empower and inspire young people to get their communities active whilst also broadening the sporting workforce which is essential if we are to take further steps toward becoming the most active city.”
